Air pressure clitoral suction toys are the best-selling products here at Self & More (and for excellent reason). The question we get asked on the regular is: what’s the difference between the Lelo Sona, the Satisfyer Pro range and the We-Vibe Melt? And more importantly, which clitoral suction toy is best?
They’re all exquisite in their own way, but there are some differences between these air pressure toys which might help you make your choice. We're going to go through each in delicious detail below.
(Since writing this article we have published another guide which includes many more toy models. You can read that here.)
How Satisfyer describe it: ‘Explosive happiness through innovative pressure wave stimulation'.
How we describe it: These toys use air waves to create a sucking sensation. It creates an incredible feeling that is somewhere between a gentle tapping and someone lightly sucking on your clit.
Difference between models: The Satisfyer Pro 2 and the Satisfyer Traveler both use the same tech so the feeling the produce is pretty similar. The Satisfyer Pro 2 is much larger and has an easy-to-hold handle which would be better suited to you if you have decreased hand mobility. The Traveler comes with a handy cover that when attached, makes it pretty hard to identify as a sex toy, so is perfect for someone who is looking for discretion or looking for a toy that doesn’t take up too much room for when you’re travelling.
Best for: Sensitive clits. The lowest setting is incredibly gentle, making it a great choice for more sensitive bodies. Don’t worry though - there are 11 settings to play with ranging from a gentle hum to an intense rumble.
Our top tip: These toys can be used on other body parts - for example, try placing it on the head of a penis while the shaft is being worked by a hand, or tease nipples with the nozzle.
How Lelo describe it: ‘Sona uses sonic waves and pulses to stimulate the entire clitoris – above, beyond and underneath. Because it never needs to make direct contact with the clitoris you can use it ANYWHERE’.
How we describe it: When we think of Sona, one word comes to mind: HhFUGGSUgfldddd. This is an INTENSE toy that really pushes the boundaries of pleasure. The addition of sonic waves means that the toy feels almost bass-like (imagine the reverb that you feel from standing next to a speaker).
Difference between models: Sona is the OG. Sona 2 promises to stimulate even more of the internal portion of your clit than ever before, plus it has a wider nozzle which allows you to more easily place it in the right spot. In the Cruise model, Cruise control is a premium feature which works by reserving 20% of the toy's full power during normal use, so that when it is pressed hard against the body and the motor begins to drop power, that extra 20% is unleashed so that there’s no reduction of intensity.
Best for: Intense sensation seekers. Vibration pattern-lovers (there are several steady modes and also patterns to explore).
Top tip: If the intensity is too high or low for your liking, then try using the toy over or under your clitoral hood. You can also hover Sona over your clit and play with the pressure. Experiment with edging: take the toy on and off your clitoris and tease your way to a more intense orgasm.
How We-Vibe describe it: ‘Pleasure Air™ Technology surrounds the clitoris with pulsating waves and gentle suction’.
How we describe it: We-Vibe Melt feels somewhere between the two previous toys we’ve mentioned. The ‘sucking’ sensation is similar to Satisfyer Pro toys, however it is slightly deeper and more intense right from the lowest setting This largely comes down to the speed of the sucking, which is fairly rapid. It ranks pretty highly on the intensity scale.
We-Vibe toys have an amazing attention for detail when it comes to the unboxing experience, which makes these toys excellent gifts (nothing says ‘I really fancy you’ quite like a luxury sex toy).
Best for: Long-distance lovers. One of the main draws of this toy is that it comes with app-based control - hand over control of your pleasure to a faraway beau. Plus, experiment with creating your own vibration settings using the app.
Our top tip: Experiment with the different intensities as they feel surprisingly different to each other.
What the toys have in common
All the toys mentioned are waterproof and perfectly safe to take into the shower or bath. They're also all rechargeable via USB. To get the most enjoyment from your toy you should pair it with lashings of water-based lube. It's worth mentioning that air-pulsators are notorious for making people with vulvas squirt - all we're saying is: put down a towel before use.
On each toy the part which you place onto your body is silicone. The We-Vibe Melt has a slightly softer opening, followed by Satisfyer and then Sona is more solid in form.
We hope this makes your decision making a little easier (and what a glorious decision to be making).
